Explains the 'Right to rent' and its effect on landlords. From 1 February 2016 all private landlords have to comply with the provisions of the Immigration Act 2014 and check their tenants have a right to rent. Argues that this process may be complex in some respects as some adult occupants can only prove a time-limited right to rent. Warns that landlords should be concerned about the new rules and other less obvious issues such as complying with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1988.
