Describes several projects (Missing Maps, What3words, OpenStreetMap) which address a lack of geographical data in the places where humanitarian organisations and other NGOs work, trying to put the vulnerable communities on the map and help to prevent the spread of diseases. Another project, City Verve, is aiming to connect the Manchester city's health, transport, environment and other services to the web with sensors and the internet of things (IoT) to create a hyper-connected, hyper-efficient smart city framework. The Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) puts Earth observation data from multiple resources on to a world map.
