Around the UK, cash-strapped councils are saving money by co-locating their leisure and services - both commercial and public - in one building. To support this the Cabinet Office has, since 2013, been running the One Public Estate initiative, which offers local authorities grants of up to £500,000 to achieve "ambitious and credible" work programmes, delivered with other regional public sector partners, to manage their assets and develop plans for co-location.
