Farmers` income fell by 14% last year to their lowest level in real terms since the Second World War according to "Agriculture in the United Kingdom 1991" (HMSO £12.00). The survey showed that the drift of farmers and workers from the land accelerated sharply as rising costs and shrinking profits took their toll on the industry.
