Following concern by insurance companies faced with increasing claims for subsidence damage Royal Insurance has set up a specialist team to look into underpinning techniques. Representatives from the team will vet structural reports submitted by consultants acting on behalf of homeowners to see if alternative repairs could be carried out. BRE `s "Foundation movement and remedial underpinning in low rise buildings" concluded that more than a third of all domestic underpinning was structurally unjustified.
