When residential property is acquired under compulsory purchase , market value of the property is the usual way of assessing compensation . In some cases, however, site value only may be paid. This article examines the problems facing owner occupiers and the consequences of current site value legislation, including the problems of occupation as a private dwelling and breaks in occupation.
