520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This report argues that government officers, from legislators to local planning authorities, should learn from the US experience and work to reverse the current rising trend in gated developments. For, although often very profitable for property developers and housebuilders, such developments physically prevent social cohesion and exacerbate the fear of crime. Urges that the American experience, where at least 12% of the population live in gated communities, while around 15% are trapped in ghettos, be avoided.
