Survey background includes definitions and the survey methodology and respondent profile. Fee earnings covers the market in context, market share by practice size, quantity surveyors' fee earnings and composition of fee earnings. Section three covers costs and profits for 2002, quantity surveyors' predictions for 2003 and recent trends in costs and profits. Section four sets out performance indicators by fee earnings per head, costs per principal and profits per principal. The fifth section looks at projects and services; fees derived from market sectors, involvment in market sectors and size and contract type of jobs. The final section examines staffing performance; staffing ratios, incremental staffing measures and trends in staffing numbers. The appendix is an explanation of the statistical terms used.
