| Summary, etc. | Professor Barry Goodchild's study reports on the results of a postal survey of over 150 chartered surveyor estate agents on the factors influencing house purchasers in their choice of property. It examines the extent to which developers are meeting consumer desires and the ways in which the design and development process might be improved. The most important factors are price, location and the characteristics of the local environment followed by the type and design of the dwelling. Less important factors are a property's capital appreciation and the reputation of the developer. The most important location issues for consumers are good quality schools, well-maintained properties and the absence of graffiti and vandalism with an area's attractive appearance and postcode status also important. The least important issues are access to good restaurants and shops and the presence of high value property in the area. |
