| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | At least 100000 workers, many in the construction industry, are exposed to respirable crystalline silica on a regular basis, causing illnesses such as cancer and silicosis. This Consultative Document issued by the HSC seeks feedback on a proposal to reduce the current Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) for silica from 0.3 mg.m -3 to 0.1 mg.m -3 (measured as an 8 hour time weighted average). Evidence shows that this would in the long-term considerably lower the risk of workers developing silicosis. |
