Summary, etc. This paper reports on a project undertaken for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, based on research into private sector agricultural tenancy arrangements in western Europe, the Americas and Australasia. The project examines the extent to which it is possible to delineate examples of good practice which, given legal, cultural and contextual differences, can be used as guidance in drawing up letting arrangements in emerging economies and markets. In reflecting the complexity of the subject, the paper draws on the experience of a range of systems to produce a 'critical path' analysis of good practice in different economic, political and social contexts.
