| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Records that tenant demand for rental property rose firmly for the quarter to January 2006, the largest increase in for four and a half years. Potential buyers are being squeezed into renting following the renewed upturn in property prices. The number of properties placed by landlords on to the market to rent has gone up at the strongest pace in almost two years. Buy-to-let investors are showing renewed interest in residential property after the 2005 lull. Rental levels continued to rise to the firmest level recorded since mid 2001. However gross yields remained virtually static in this period as house price rises are matching those of rents. Surveyors expect rent rises to slow in the next period but only for houses where buy-to-let activity is increasing most rapidly. The rent outlook for flats is still viewed as positive with no slowdown envisaged. |
