520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Looks at how successfully departments and executive agencies are meeting sustainability targets for their new buildings and major refurbishments. Whilst most departments have started to see sustainability as an issue, in 2005-06 only 35% of new builds and 18% of major refurbishment projects had carried out or planned to carry out environmental assessments. In addition, out of a sample of projects that had not been assessed, 80% would not have met the required assessment standards. A key issue for departments is reconciling sustainability and value for money. The report concludes by illustrating how sustainable buildings can deliver real benefits and making detailed recommendations.
