Summary, etc. Reviews the performance of European housing markets in 2007, examining trends in house price inflation, building activity, mortgage markets, and turnover. Reveals a significant slowdown in house price growth across Europe, with falls in some countries (Germany and Ireland) and drops in activity from summer onwards, caused primarily by rising interest rates. Some house price falls are expected during 2008, although the downturn is unlikely to be as substantial as the downturn in the early 1990s. In the UK, interest rate cuts are likely to stabilise house prices in 2008.
