| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | This research compares the combined embodied and operational carbon dioxide emissions from new build homes and refurbished properties. The results from six case studies (three newly built houses and three homes created through refurbishing existing properties) show that embodied energy is a much bigger part of the lifetime carbon cost of housing than previously thought. Therefore, refurbishing existing homes and converting empty property into new homes can deliver carbon dioxide emission reductions by stopping emissions from embodied energy that would arise from new build homes. |
