A special supplement on roofing design and technology. Reports on how the Post Office maintains its flat roofs and the decision taken eight years ago to incorporate pitched roof design into all new design briefs. Looks at the use of profiled metal sheeting , emphasising the importance of careful fixing and considers the design of industrial roofs . Argues that correct design, selection of appropriate materials and the introduction of quality control on site will ensure that the flat roof provides a viable alternative to other forms of roof construction.
