520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This book brings together new and emerging perspectives on sustainability. Combining a series of well know authors in contemporary philosophy with established practitioners of sustainable design, this book develops a coherent theoretical framework for how a philosophy of sustainability might engage with the growing practice of sustainable design. In the context of design practice thinking sustainably involves a rigorous combination of philosophical questioning and a common sense solution approach to the problems such questioning produces. Here we are presented with a collection of different, jargon-free perspectives on how the practices and theories of sustainability create subjectivity. Divided into sections, it articulates the specificity of both theory and practice, whilst recognizing the manner in which philosophical thinking and design thinking are different, yet related to each other. By producing a pragmatic materialism, whereby theory is broached as a practical discourse, the authors argue that theory has material effects and describe a new way to approach sustainable design, so as to eqip the next generation of designers with the necessary conceptual tools in thinking sustainably.
