Summary, etc. The Scottish Executive has announced a consultation over proposals for environmental and agricultural standards farmers should meet to qualify for subsidies. Under reforms agreed in 2003, production subsidies will be replaced by a Single Farm Payment. Entitlement will depend on maintaining land in Good Agricultural and Environmental Condition (GAEC) and compliance with European laws on environmental protection and animal welfare.
