520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Examines the building failures that have recently hit the headlines, including the dramatic collapse of Terminal 2E of Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. Considers whether building failures are becoming more common and notes that detailed information on this is difficult to obtain now there is no longer any systematic survey of building defects in Britain. There is no British equivalent of the French agency, Socatec, which technically audits designs based on the feedback it gets from insurance claims. Surveying in the building industry is becoming more competent in certain ways, such as the IT revolution making technical information more readily available. There are some problems including clients aspiring to more iconic architecture that sets out to be adventurous, but stretches technical competence to beyond its limits.
