Summary, etc. The UK economy is one of the most divided in Europe, with southern England outpacing the north and Midlands, both in terms of GDP and employment growth, according to latest EU regional economic estimates by Experian. Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire was the fastest growing region in the UK for GDP between 1998 and 2003, with annual average growth topping 4.4%. Among the poorest UK regions for GDP during the period were Tees Valley and Durham.
