520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Analyses the release for the first time of empirical estimates of concentration in the British construction sector. The method applied to the raw data provided by the DETR/DTI, produces the estimate for market concentration. Highlights the popular view that construction is a fragmented sector, with the vast majority of private contractors operating on a small scale. Concludes concentration among main trades is also low. However, concentration among specialist trades is the reverse. Results suggest British construction sector is dynamic and comprises many diverse markets in terms of their levels and trends in concentration. Tables, diagrams and references.
