The ODPM estimates that 2 500-8 000 home inspectors will be needed. Anyone wanting to take this responsibility will have to attend a training course costing £2 000 to gain a diploma in home inspection. Some doubt whether there will be enough inspectors in place by 2007 to properly implement the legislation but both RICS and ODPM are confident there will be the necessary number of people. With summaries of what is contained in the home condition report and how construction professionals can become home inspectors.
