Abstract Written with homeowners and residential tenants in mind, the guidance offers basic, comprehensible advice. RICS believes having a basic understanding of fire safety is of the utmost importance for all, and the professional body have commissioned the guide to spread awareness of good fire safety practice. Offers basic advice about fire safety in the home and has been written specifically to raise awareness amongst homeowners and residential tenants to reduce risks and manage fire safety measures. Identifies common causes of fires, forward planning including fire escape routes and what to do when fire breaks out in the home. Looks at fire detection measures such as smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, equipment to deal with fires such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets and accessibility and specific needs such as mobility, hearing and visual impairments. Notes the measures that should in placed for rented or shared accommodation including smoke alarm compliance, CO2 alarms and Gas appliance checks and electrical compliance. Concludes with a list of useful links for further information.
