520 ## - ABSTRACT
Abstract National Grid cases:
The Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) was split-up by central Government when de-regulating the electricity supply industry. It was re-invented into three separate parts including NGC responsible for overhead and underground electricity lines, cables and transmission. 'Necessary Wayleaves' were imposed on owners and could also be sought by landowners if there was a loss of agricultural productivity etc where pylons are placed.
Case 1: The Royal Docks, London hearing into Necessary Wayleaves. The Hearing (not a Public Inquiry) was held in two parts in early 1992
Case 2: Enron power station and public enquiry, 1992, decision 12 May 1994.
Case 3: Lands Tribunal considerations in 1997 for compensation against National Grid Company (NGC) due to an overhead line crossing a former agricultural research centre, vacant for 14 years
Case 4: The Swansea Local Plan Public Local Inquiry held in early 1997 was a case where such a policy required ‘undergrounding’ of new and diverted lines.
Case 5; The Bridgend County Borough Council Unitary Development Plan of July 2000 contained policies which prohibited high voltage power lines to be built across existing or proposed residential development or residential development beneath or immediately adjacent to existing or proposed high voltage power lines. NGC and Western Power Distribution objected to the Policy
