Summary, etc. Describes the major refurbishment of West Ham Town Hall constructed in 1869. In 1982 fire destroyed the ceiling and roof of the public hall and it was decided to grasp this opportunity to provide a multi-function social building. The article covers evaluation of the tenders,problems on site and particular complications involved in the work. After nearly two years the building was officially re-opened on 16 July 1986,its 117th anniversary.
