| Summary, etc. | Though precise figures are unavailable, there are perhaps over 600,000 pre- Twentieth Century farm building in England and Wales which may be regarded as redundant. Obsolescence of buildings is not a new phenomenon, but as the pace of change has increased, older buildings have acquired an aesthetic and historical importance which is more widely recognised now than hitherto. Consequently, issues of maintenance, planning, re-use, and conversion are more problematic. The range of these problems is explored in the article along with the management options available to property owners. |
