| Summary, etc. | A feature on office design, highlighting the needs of organisations and their employees, Argues that the design of office buildings must allow for future changes by clients, and describes how space in the old Lloyd`s building was organised to make it more manageable over time. Discusses the failure of architects to design offices which fit the needs of the occupants and suggests a new approach to office design. The important role of architects in cabling design is highlighted and air conditioning and lighting of offices are discussed. Examines why one company decided to refurbish rather than move to new premises and reports on the employment by IBM of project managers to oversee its building programme, looking at three particular projects. Reports on what happened when IBM took control of the building team during the three projects and an interior architect emphasises the need for more user participation in office design. |
