Summary, etc. The statutory framework created by the Treasure Act 1996 was supplemented by a Code of Practice which provided for the many practical matters connected with the finding and disposal of material suspected of being treasure. The Code and the 1996 Act came into force on 24 September 1997 and applies to items found after that date. Outlines the duties of the finder, the coroner, considers the valuation of the treasure and the rights of the landowner.
