| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Considers the issue that building design and building production should be more integrated as highlighted by studies of the construction industy such as the 1998 Egan Report and argues that architects should have a better grasp of building production techniques by learning from manufacturing. Architects produce a wide range of designs, following the different categories of buildings - standard, custom, hybrid and/or bespoke buildings and therefore architects need to have a comprehensive knowledge of production techniques for these categories and an understanding of how these techniques interact. The article suggests that such a level of knowledge is unrealistic and suggests that building design methodologies should be introduced for use by architects, consulting engineers and building component designers. |
