Summary, etc. The Office for Government Commerce has begun talks with Defence Estates regarding the dissemination of its experience of prime contracting, which is to become the primary method of procurement for public projects from 2002. The system will probably be used by the government for long-term maintenance and renovation deals whilst J Sainsbury, which has adopted prime contracting in a separate move, intends to use the route to develop long-term relationships with contractors for both new build and renovations and extensions.
