520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Revised government projections indicate England's population will increase by around 1m more than previously thought. Presents, and considers, the key findings of the newly released report by the National Housing Federation and the Country Planning Association - "Housing demand and need in England 1996-2016". This estimates that the higher population projection will lead to the formation of 420,000 additional households in England over 20 years. Thus, to meet this rising need, every year between 1996-2000 an additional 80,000-85,000 affordable homes will be needed. The report also considers the effects on different regions. For instance, housing pressures are expected to be felt most keenly in the south of England. Notes the importance of utilising these projections in planning decisions and allocation of resources for housing. Diagrams.
