| Summary, etc. | Examines the case of "Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust & others v Troup Bywaters and Anders (a firm)" [2001] All ER (D) 341 (May) and the issues raised by this case over the value of expert evidence in professional negligence cases. Article warns that expert evidence can fall apart when tested at trial and that expert evidence needs to address all relevant issues, not just the personal view of the expert. In this particular case, the expert witness had concentrated on his own opinion and not allowed for any difference of view by a reasonably competent services engineer over the issue. |
