Summary, etc. The RICS aims to standardise the conditions of sale in auction catalogues. Paul Bagust, RICS faculty executive responsible for auctioneering, explains, ' We need the same conditions of sale across the whole auctioneering industry, and I hope that this is what will happen early next year. Conditions of sale have just evolved and auctioneers have tagged bits on, or just made bits up. They have become a bit messy'. The RICS has commissioned plain english lawyer Paul Clark to rewrite the conditions. Comment so far on the draft proposals has been favourable. Deadline for comment on the proposals is the end of September 2001.
