| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Looks at the 'e-economy' and the implications it has for spatial development and planning for sustainability. Warns that without strong integration of ICT into regional strategies, the e-economy is likely to add to problems of unsustainable development, and regional and local divides will be re-inforced. Argues that the vision of the electronic revolution bringing about the death of distance, and making geography irrelevant, is very misleading. Place does matter, and has a major bearing on the sustainability of the e-economy. Looks at the current location of dotcom companies, and where e-workers presently live and work. Suggests that the current geography of the e-economy is unsustainable. Argues for joined-up planning and support for innovation at national, regional and local levels if this pattern is to change. |
