Summary, etc. Discusses PPG25, Development and flood risk. This is a result of the serious flooding in autumn 2000 and the need for action to prevent such occurrences in the future. Argues the PPG25 is useful in order to reduce flood plain development but problems could arise over the consultation process. For example, PPG25 evades the principle of a flood plain's functional nature being an integral part any river system. The use of indicative maps such as the Environment Ageny's maps is problematic as a thorough site analysis is often needed to determine the true risk of flooding. Also more resources are needed for the planning process.
