Summary, etc. RICS has responded to the Inland Revenue's consultation on modernising stamp duty by calling on government to debate replacing the 'slab' system with a more progressive tax scale. Government should also consider separating residential and commercial stamp duty and raising the threshold to better reflect current property prices.
