Summary, etc. The development of a renewable and sustainable energy source is fundamental to many European Government Energy policies. There are many types of renewable energy source, of which wind power is one. Wind power has been developed in many offshore locations. However, land for new developments is relatively scarce, and this is compounded by the objections of local residents, necessitating developers to look at the marine offshore environment. Careful consideration must be given to the environmental factors when building an offshore wind farm. The hydrographer and geoscientist will play a crucial role in these developments.
