Government proposals include the introduction of 'statements of development principles', shortening the life of planning permissions and other consents and reducing the scope of applications under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 s73. Highlights several advantages to the current system of outline planning permission as defined in the Town and Country Planning (General Development Procedure) Order 1995 and expresses concerns about the statements of development principles, such as their inflexibility. Concludes that the development industry will pay a price if the proposals go through.
