Summary, etc. DEFRA has published a new code of guidance on the protection and management of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) taking into account new measures introduced under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. "Sites of special scientific interest: encouraging positive partnerships" explains how the law protects SSSIs and puts emphasis on productive partnerships between English Nature and landowners or managers to ensure the conservation of SSSIs.
