| Summary, etc. | Questions why government and industry have failed to change the public perception of telecommunications development proposals. The 2002 code of best practice on the siting of mobile phone masts, the revised PPG8 and amendments to the General Permitted Development Order 1995 and the Federation of the Electronics Industry's 'ten commitments' have all strived to improve public consultation. However, public mistrust remains because government has failed to address health and safety concerns and this mistrust often impacts on the decisions of planning committees. Argues that the code of best practice provides useful siting and design guidance for operators and it is now up to government to secure public support for the telecommunications industry. |
