| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Reports on the model village of Poundbury, now celebrating its 10th year, and argues that residents enjoy living there despite the criticism it has attracted. Describes the Prince of Wales' vision behind Poundbury and outlines the scheme's first phase, a mix of development on 65 acres including housing (20% social housing), offices, light industrial workshops, a pub and restaurant, a market hall and shops in a square, and areas of open space. Looks at the style of urban design and architecture used and highlights some of the criticisms the traditional market town look has attracted. However, argues that Poundbury residents enjoy living there, the housing market is strong with a good ratio of social housing and Poundbury provides a model for built environment professionals to consider, regardless of personal taste.
