| Summary, etc. | Discusses micropower as a solution to the problems of power shortages and power outages that have occurred in the last year in places such as London and parts of the USA. Micropower is a network of small, decentralised power plants in or near homes and offices that would supply electricity. Describes how a number of different technologies are competing in the microgeneration marketplace; these include microturbines that are refrigerator-sized generators that can operate on a variety of gaseous and liquid fuels. Also there are fuel cells which work by combining hydrogen with oxygen to create electricity and only produce water as a waste product. Argues that micropower represents a business opportunity for landlords as there could be significant benefits to the new technology such as improving the bond between landlord and customers. |
