520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Looks at the housing subsidy system in Sweden, which it is claimed, is unfair to the rental sector, ineffective as to income distribution and has involved increasingly less public participation over the years. The housing sector pays out more today in taxes than it receives in subsidies, which are predominantly comprised of tax deductions applying only to owner-occupiers and housing allowances payable to pensioners and households with children or with applicants 18-29 years of age. Describes also interest subsidies paid to new construction and renovation projects, investment grants aimed at facilitating new construction in areas of housing shortage, credit guarantees given to projects that have been granted interest subsidies. Subsidies in Sweden have become less general and more selective/income related. Charts display subsidies and taxes in 1991 and 2004 and an overview of subsidies.
