Guided by the authority's Smart City Vision the council has entered into a 10-year strategic partnership with BT to deliver large-scale business transformation projects and provide the council's IT infrastructure and services. Government support has been available but on the basis that recipient authorities will be able to demonstrate considerable savings through improvements in internal organisation and procurement and by collaborative ventures to share and rationalise services. Edinburgh and BT have ensured that they only deliver projects where benefits outweigh costs such as the new planning and building control service.
