The authors use empirical research to show that the relative level of corporate real estate ownership depends on the industry in which a company is active. The fact that ownership varies greatly across sub-sectors is explained by differences in location and demands of real estate. Overall, real estate ownership for retail companies is associated with having a strong performance image. This contrasts with the impression that the industrial sector has negative performance effects.
