Summary, etc. [2007] EWCA Civ 236, 28 February 2007. Considers the duty of inspectors to give reasons for planning decisions. The appellant was initially refused planning permission for an extension on the grounds that it altered the character of a conservation area. The inspector stated that any extension would unacceptably alter the look of the street. The appellant then submitted a second design. A second inspector decided that the extension was acceptable in principle, but that the design was unacceptable. He did not address the reasons for this decision. "Held": The appeal was allowed on the grounds that fuller reasons were required to assist the appellant in predicting what future designs might be deemed acceptable.
