Summary, etc. Results of a Law Society of Scotland survey reveal unauthorised alterations as a major cause of problems. 60% of solicitors state they are the second most common cause of problems for buyers and sellers. The problem is increasing, according to most respondents.. 31% report that alteration enquiries are necessary in at least 60% of transactions. A minority of cases are resolved when the seller provides additional evidence. Costs to the client are below £250 in around 35% of cases.
