520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Reports government proposals to repeal section 57 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954. This special facility allows eligible landlords to regain possession of premises they need due to their responsibilities to public service provision. Although this only occurred under certain circumstances, the government now feels that this section, enacted due to a shortage of commercial property, is outdated and anomalous. It is also at odds with the spirit of human rights law and openness. The government is proposing to replace the legislation with a clear and narrow definition of similar landlords' rights. This is not seen as controversial.
