Reviews the underlying causes of pitfalls in noise control and sound insulation in commercial buildings and comments on the feasibility of open-plan offices. Part 2 suggests remedies for reducing exposure of occupants to noise. Begins with criteria for sound levels on site and continues with comments on location and the sreening of noise sources to the internal and external planning of buildings. Discusses the design of the building envelope and the role in sound insulation which is played by windows and consequently ventilation . Considers the requirements of internal divisions such as walls , partitions , floors and doors . Reviews types of finish which reduce noise levels and concludes with an overview on the purpose of testing and diagnosing problems. Includes case studies. |
