The source of confusion could be the sheer number of products available. Execution-only SIPPs are low-cost, and while they do not offer a full range of portfolio freedom, they offer much wider choice than standard personal pensions. Life company SIPPs offer good deals on in-house funds, but are a little outdated and can result in average returns. Full SIPPs offer the greatest investment choice, but charges are high.
